史上最牛女演员
在單一的知名電影颁奖项中,取得最多「最佳女主角」奖项的是誰?
提示:常见的是取得三四次最佳女主角,但有2人在某个電影颁奖中共勝出五次。One of them even won 3 years in a row.

女主角得奖法則 (Principle of Best Actress Award)
1 總得獎次数都是三或四,五是罕有.
2 連續得獎次数不超过二,百花獎 劉曉慶 是例外 .   Shabana Azmi is a brilliant exception.
    三是罕有。連續兩年赢得女主角的個案也不是没有(經常不會是零),也不一定是極少。
3. Median age for 張曼玉, 劉曉慶, and Shabana Azmi is all 33.  Such an coincidence.

英美兩國真是難兄難弟 , 大家在兩年前用民主選舉做出的决定雖然性質不同,但卻有難同當,兩年後都開花結果 –可惜都是惡果:  Brexit &
2018–2019 federal government shutdown.

Brexit, a portmanteau of "Britain" and "exit", is the impending withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union. It follows the referendum of 23 June 2016 when 51.9 per cent of those who voted supported withdrawal.

On 15 January 2019, the House of Commons voted 432 to 202 against the deal. This is the largest majority against a United Kingdom government ever. Soon after, a motion of no confidence in Her Majesty's Government was tabled by the opposition.   (from wiki)

Trump was elected president in a surprise victory over Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. He became the oldest and wealthiestperson ever to assume the presidency, the first without prior military or government service, and the fifth to have won the election while losing the popular vote.

On November 8, 2016, Trump received 306 pledged electoral votes versus 232 for Clinton. The official counts were 304 and 227 respectively, after defections on both sides. Trump received a smaller share of the popular vote than Clinton, which made him the fifth person to be elected president while losing the popular vote. Clinton was ahead nationwide by 2.1 percentage points, with 65,853,514 votes (48.18%) to 62,984,828 votes (46.09%); neither candidate reached a majority.

On December 22, 2018, the federal government was partially shut down after Trump demanded $5.6 billion in federal funds for a U.S.–Mexico border wall to partly fulfill his campaign promise.[612] The shutdown was caused by a lapse in funding for nine federal departments, affecting about one-fourth of federal government activities.[613] Trump said he will not accept any bill that does not include funding for the wall, and Democrats, who now control the House, said they will not support any bill that does. Senate Republicans have said they will not advance any legislation that Trump would not sign.[614] In earlier negotiations with Democratic leaders, Trump commented that he would be "proud to shut down the government for border security".[615][616][617] As of January 12, 2019, this became the longest shutdown in U.S. history, exceeding the 21-day record of the 1995–96 shutdown.  (from wiki)

美國總統特朗普周五(25日)宣布與國會達成協議,暫時恢復聯邦政府運作三周,直至2月15日。參眾兩院通過議案後,特朗普隨即簽署法案,正式結束美國史上歷時最長的停擺。

On February 15, 2019, President Donald Trump declared a national emergency in order to bypass the United States Congress, after being unsatisfied with a bipartisan border bill that had passed the House of Representatives and the Senate a day before.

Mon January 28, 2019:

- McDonald's and KFC warn of shortages and price hikes if there's no Brexit deal

McDonald's (MCD), KFC (YUM) and Pret a Manger have joined with UK supermarkets to warn that crashing out of the European Union will result in "significant" disruptions to their supply chains.

The companies said in a letter sent to UK lawmakers on Monday that they will not be able to maintain the "choice, quality and durability" of food if Britain leaves the bloc without an exit agreement in place that protects trade with Europe.
"While we have been working closely with our suppliers on contingency plans it is not possible to mitigate all the risks to our supply chains," they wrote.
In addition to the fast food makers, the letter was signed by representatives of most of the country's biggest supermarket chains and the British Retail Consortium.
The United Kingdom is scheduled to leave the European Union in just 60 days. But UK lawmakers have rejected the exit deal negotiated by Prime Minister Theresa May, and companies are worried about a disorderly Brexit.

The food suppliers warn that crashing out of the European Union would "greatly increase import costs" and "put upward pressure on food prices." They said that new tariffs would have a "devastating impact" on UK farmers.

House Sparrows nest in holes of buildings and other structures such as streetlights, gas-station roofs, signs, and the overhanging fixtures that hold traffic lights. They sometimes build nests in vines climbing the walls of buildings. House Sparrows are strong competitors for nest boxes, too, at times displacing the species the nest box was intended for, such as bluebirds and Tree Swallows. House Sparrows nest in holes in trees somewhat less often.

NEST DESCRIPTION
House Sparrow nests are made of coarse dried vegetation, often stuffed into the hole until it’s nearly filled. The birds then use finer material, including feathers, string, and paper, for the lining. House Sparrows sometimes build nests next to each other, and these neighboring nests can share walls. House Sparrows often reuse their nests.

House Sparrow builds nest in tree

A House Sparrow building a neat round nest in a tree is an odd and seldom-seen sight. Recently, in western North Dakota I watched a male House Sparrow busily constructing a round grass nest in the crotch of a coniferous tree, a location a robin might choose. This was at a I-94 rest stop in the midst of vast, treeless prairie. The building offered no nooks or crannies, the kind these birds often use. There were no signs to build behind, and no nest boxes or other cavities. Usual building sites were non-existent. I’ve always thought House Sparrows, an introduced species, were obiligate cavity nesters. I did find one Internet site, from the University of Michigan, that mentioned use of both deciduous and coniferous trees for non-cavity nest construction, but dozens of sites did not mention it. The nest, built entirely of long strands of grass, was about twice the size of a softball. The nest entrance was an obvious hole on one side of the structure.

Note:
(1) about Barn Owls at Jamaica Bay :

Don Riepe says: “For its size, Jamaica Bay has the largest number of nesting barn owls in New York State.   In the early 1980’s, as a park ranger, I helped build and put up the many owl boxes in remote areas of the Jamaica Bay Refuge.  With help from American Littoral Society, volunteers, and raptor bander Chris Nadareski, we have placed about 20 of these boxes.  Each year, we band roughly 18-30 owlets.  Although rather odd in appearance, the owlets will grow up to be strikingly beautiful barn owls.  A study of pellets undertaken by the National Park Service showed their major prey as Norway rats and meadow voles (Cook 1986).  Since Jamaica Bay has ample shoreline, upland and three closed landfills, these mammals are abundant.  Providing nesting habitat for the bay’s barn owls helps to assure their future as a top predator in New York City.

Don retired in 2003 from the National Park Service where he worked as a naturalist ranger and manager of the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge in NYC.  Currently employed as Jamaica Bay Guardian and Director of the Northeast Chapter for the American Littoral Society,  Don has written many articles on natural history and his photographs have been published in journals including Scientific American, National Wildlife, Audubon, and The New York Times.  He has an M.S. in Natural Resources Management from the University of New Hampshire and has taught a course in Wildlife Management at St. John’s University.  A long-time member of the Port Authority’s Bird Hazard Task Force, he also serves on the advisory board of NYC Audubon and is co-chair of the Brooklyn/Queens Jamaica Bay Task Force.

https://www.cnbc.com/2019/12/06/us-flu-season-arrives-early-driven-by-an-unexpected-virus.html (DEC 6 2019)
- The U.S. winter flu season is off to its earliest start in more than 15 years.
- There are different types of flu viruses, and the one causing illnesses in most parts of the country is a surprise. It’s a version that normally doesn’t abound until March or April.
- Louisiana was the first state to really get hit hard, with doctors there saying they began seeing large numbers of flu-like illnesses in October.
- Epperson said there’s a chance the flu season will peak this month (Dec.), which would be unusually early. Flu season usually doesn’t hit fever pitch until around February.

  2. American Black Duck - Clutch Size: 6-14 eggs.  The female incubates the eggs while the male defends the territory. Pairs nest near each other fairly peacefully unless one male or pair intrudes; then the territorial male threatens, chases, and fights the intruders. Halfway through incubation, the male becomes less attentive and eventually abandons the nest.  src

  (2) https://web.stanford.edu/group/stanfordbirds/text/essays/Courtship_Feeding.html

Courtship feeding is frequently seen in terns. For instance, in an effort to lure females to their territories in the nesting area, a male Common Tern carries a fish around the breeding colony and displays it to prospective mates. After a pair bond is formed, during the "honeymoon period" the male tern actually feeds the female, and soon thereafter they begin to copulate. During the following five to ten days, both sexes feed themselves, but the male also frequently feeds the increasingly dependent female. For the few days prior to egg laying the female is fed almost exclusively by the male, but this activity declines rapidly as the second and third eggs are laid.

It is generally thought that courtship feeding serves more than a ceremonial or pair-bonding function -- that it provides the female with considerable nutritional benefit. In turn, the number of eggs and total clutch weight are partly determined by the female's nutritional status. Careful measurements suggest that the total weight of a Common Tern's clutch is correlated with the amount of food the male delivers, especially during the honeymoon. Male Common Terns in one Massachusetts colony were unable to deliver as much food to their mates as males in a second colony. In the colony where the males were less successful, the females laid fewer and lighter eggs. Thus the amount of food the male provides may limit female reproductive output.

If the female's nutritional status is so critical to her reproduction, why does she gradually stop feeding herself prior to egg laying? The probable answer is that she is too heavy to hunt efficiently. Before laying her three egg clutch a female Common Tern weighs half again as much as she does when not breeding. Terns forage by cruising at low speed and making precise dives at fishes. A female's additional weight would increase the energy requirements of flight, and perhaps make controlled dives too difficult.

This does not mean that improving the female's nutrition is the only function of courtship feeding. In gulls, it is also an important inducement to copulation (as it may be in the Common Tern). It may also serve to facilitate the formation of the pair bond and reduce aggression between the male and female. Still, when a male warbler, crossbill, chickadee, or tern is seen feeding a female, it seems apparent that he is increasing his own reproductive success by keeping her fat and healthy.

Note:
(1) Swans have long been viewed as a symbol of fidelity and everlasting love. But in fact they are cheating philanderers who regularly flee the nest for extramarital sex, Australian researchers have revealed.  src
 - black swans
 - one in six is the product of an illicit encounter. Researchers now wonder how females manage to slip away from their over-protective partners, to mate on the side.
(2) The truth about swans
 - Once courtship is complete, male and female swans really are bonded for life, with few exceptions. This is unusual. Most other birds will raise their young as a pair for one season, but move on to new mates the next. What's more, many species also engage in "extra-pair mating" – "adultery" to you and me. Ducks are particularly keen on such additional copulations. By finding extra mates in these ways, each bird can produce more offspring.
However, for swans the benefits of "together forever" are greater than anything they could gain by sowing their wild oats. The bonded pair will raise clutch after clutch of cygnets in their lifetimes, learning from their successes and failures each time. This opportunity to learn may be one reason they don't break up.
 - Staying together can also save time and energy. Every year, Bewick's swans fly a long, hard race from breeding grounds in northern Russia to their European winter quarters. They only make brief pit stops, to refuel. So they have little time for flirting.
"Most Bewick's swans form pair-bonds during their breeding season in Arctic Russia," says Eileen Rees of the Wetlands and Wildfowl Trust (WWT). "It seems that the 2,500 km long migration and the shortness of the Arctic summer limits their ability to find a new mate and breed within a year."
Bewick's swans migrate the furthest of all swan species, which may be why they are the least likely to "divorce". In 50 years there have only been three cases at WWT Slimbridge, where 10,000 Bewick's swans have spent their winters since studies began in 1963.
- So why do swans ever leave their long-term mate, who has become the perfect parent? Rather like humans, they sometimes get out when things go badly.
"Swans change mates sometimes after a bad breeding season or nest failure," says Radoslaw Włodarczyk of University of Łódź in Poland. "It takes 1-2 seasons for birds to match each other precisely and start to breed again." The new pair often raises fewer cygnets in their first year, but improve in later years, particularly for the female from the original pair. In Poland, the divorce rate in mute swans is about 4%.
