House Reef at Samsara Hotel Depth 3 - 16 m / 10 - 53 ft
Dive at our house reef just few yards away from the Dive Shop!
Excellent for Night Dives!
A giant stride entry from the platform and you are already on the reef!
review :
We stayed at Samsara over Christmas 2011. It was a great time. They are starting
to do some repairs on the cliff landings and it looked like the hotel has
recently been repainted. The staff was very friendly and very prompt when we
needed something.
We snorkeled everyday right off the cliffs but you can head out on The Elvira
glass bottom boat to go to the reef. I highly recommend this boat tour. The
captain and guides are fun and they really show you the reef.

Grand Lido Negril (Formerly Breezes Grand Resort & Spa Negril All Inclusive)
“Amazing snorkeling right off the beach!”
There are two beaches – the clothing optional (c/o) and main beach. On our first day, we walked on the main beach and strolled right into the Couples beach. It was a very nice beach and sometimes we had the water to ourselves. However, I think our c/o beach is what puts this resort over the top. The snorkeling at the c/o beach is awesome!! Other resorts actually take their guests to this area for their snorkeling excursion. There were many different kinds of fish as well as sting rays and lots of sea snakes. Definitely bring watershoes or wear your flippers. It’s very rocky on the bottom with lots of urchins. Hint: take some bread with you in a zip lock bag and feed the fish near the pier. The fish will eventually eat out of your hand!
... We took 2 snorkeling trips (which were included), which took us somewhere different each time. We kayaked almost daily but did not take out the hobie cats. We paid for the sunset cruise to Rick’s but beware that it leaves out of Hedo (a nearby resort) and it’s clothing optional! Definitely jump off a cliff at Rick’s, even if it’s one that is just 10 feet.
SCUBA/SNORKELING daily. Every morning about 9 am the boat goes out for a Deep Dive for those qualified (single tank dive) nothing spectacular but fun and free. You are out about an hour. About 10:30 the boat goes out again for a Shallow Dive, again about an hour. Then about 11:30 the boat goes out for snorkeling around a small reef there again nothing special but fun and free. So if you want to you could Scuba twice a day (if qualified) and snorkel once. If you plan to do any snorkeling off the beach you should bring at least your own mask/snorkel
Hedo 2 does a similar thing, but there are 2 snorkel trips per day (as well as the 2 dives per day). Times for snorkeling are 10:30 and 2:30. I'm surprised that GL offers less service, considering the price difference.....??
Hedo (and I'd bet a bunch GL too) provide snorkel gear, and for scuba provide all basic gear sans wetsuit. Night dives are not included, and arranged privately with the dive staff. Cost a few years ago was ~$45pp, using the resort's equipment.
If you'd like a bunch of folks input, try posting on dennyp.com. There are boards there specifically for H2 and GLN, with many repeat visitors to both. Enjoy!
Allegedly, the new owners of Breezes Grand Negril announced they are NOT turning
the resort into a family friendly Memories Resort, but they will be keeping the
adult only format and turning it back into Grand Lido Negril (leveraging the
historic name and brand), with the scuba and snorkeling included. Apparently
they are still undecided if they will keep the cove clothing optional.
I am cautiously optimistic this rumor becomes reality and prayerful the cove
remains CO. If the sorely needed funds are invested to restore the facility to
what it once was, I think they have a viable market that is not being addressed
in the Negril area. I have met many folks in recent years who miss the Grand
Lido experience and would welcome an opportunity to return home.
Keep your fingers crossed...
Well it appears the foundation of this story is true.
They are now answering the phone as Grand Lido, plan on keeping the cove C/O,
and adding 200 rooms.
I am hard pressed to imagine where they are going to find room for 400 more
people on their beaches. Occasionally the cove would be near capacity under the
old construct, it would be tight with another 20 people (5% of expansion).
The other facilities (restaurants, pools, gym, etc) will also probably be
stressed with the additional rooms/guests.
Promises to be interesting...
